grit2 and was nominated by Laura Gilmartin. As a school administrator and parent she has seen firsthand the need for mental health support in our youth. grit2 (growing resiliency in teens together) is a Downers Grove based non-profit founded in 2018 to support parents and empower teens by connecting them with mental health support, tools, and resources. The organization includes executive and teen boards as well as an advisory board of local professionals providing insight and counsel. The Mission of grit2 is to empower parents and teens to flourish in mind, body and spirit by connecting them and the community with information, tools and resources. grit2 has hosted over 50 speakers, discussions and activities around various mental health topics. Some of the topics have included: social safety, anxiety, sports and mental health, social drama, tech safety, school/test/participation refusal, and bullying. grit2 partners with District 58 and 99 to provide in-school projects such as coping kits, "Take Heart" in school activity reaching more than 4,00 elementary students and DGS Paws & Relax assistance therapy dogs. The organization also researched and secured a motivational mental health speaker for District 58 kick-off event for over 600 administrators and staff members. The grit2 teen board had over 40 applicants this past year! They have hosted tables at DGN and DGS, developed a peer resource guide, created an Instagram account and content, and volunteered at local events.
Throughout May, grit2, Navigate Adolescence and the Village of Downers Grove will be shining a light on the importance of mental health and resources in our community.
