The 4 Anna Foundation was nominated by Amy D’Amico and Laura Gilmartin, who both know Anna’s family personally. The 4 Anna Foundation was created in memory of Anna, who sadly drowned just after her 4th birthday at a pool with lifeguards and adults nearby. The mission of the foundation is to increase water safety awareness. The foundation initiatives include: education and scholarships for self-rescue swim lessons, increasing awareness about water safety and drowning in the community and emphasizing the importance of high safety standards for lifeguards and aquatic facilities. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. The 4 Anna Foundation was created so no other family has to experience the pain of losing a child to drowning.
